LiveWire’s SmokeFree Warrington service has been named the second best in England at helping residents to quit smoking in four weeks.

A report just release by the NHS in England looks into stop smoking services for the period from April  to December last year.

SmokeFree Warrington, part of LiveWire’s Lifestyles team – which is commissioned by Public Health Warrington to deliver stop smoking support to Warrington residents – had the second highest proportion of successful quitters in 4 weeks (77 per cent).

They were pipped to the top spot by Rutland in the East Midlands, who had the highest figure (86 per cent). The national average of people who go on to give up in four weeks after setting a ‘quit date’ is 52 per cent.

In the last year the SmokeFree team has introduced a number of new methods of supporting people stopping to stop smoking, which have had a successful impact on the four-week quit rates. These include:

  • Automated text messages to clients to touch base outside of clinic contact time
  • Telephone consultations
  • Email consolations
  • Stronger links with Warrington Hospital
  • Workplace events and sessions
  • A dedicated SmokeFree Warrington Facebook page

LiveWire’s Ruth Armstrong, Lifestyles officer Lead SmokeFree, said: “The team has worked incredibly hard to achieve this and I’m really proud of our current success rate which is a reflection of the dedication and hard work that the team devotes to our clients.

“Every bit of work undertaken makes a difference, and together we will continue to support those ready to make changes to give up smoking. If you’re thinking about quitting and would like our help, please contact us on 0300 003 0818 or via Facebook @smokefreewarrington.

“I would like to take the opportunity to thank colleagues at Public Health Warrington, Warrington Borough Council, Warrington and Halton Hospitals and North West Boroughs Health for their contributions and ongoing partnerships.”

Sonya Ann, 24, from Warrington, stopped smoking after 20 years  with help of SmokeFree Warrington.

Sonya said: “I didn’t think I could stop smoking at all and I’m so proud of myself. If you believe in yourself, you can do anything – with the help and support of the Lifestyles team. You will get there! The advice I give people is to get help and support from LiveWire – they are happy to help. Thank you to everyone who helped me.”
