Unemployment down nearly 50 per cent in Warrington, says election hopeful

UNEMPLOYMENT is down nearly 50 per cent across Warrington since 2010, according to Conservative election hopeful Andy Carter.
In addition, the latest figures show that wages have risen at their fastest pace in over a decade with the unemployment rate at its lowest since 1975, at 3.9 per cent.
Cllr Carter’s claims are in sharp contrast to those of Warrington North Labour MP Helen Jones who this week said unemployment was rising in her constituency.
He said: “Her comments don’t seem to reflect the picture I can see in Warrington. In both constituencies unemployment is down 50 per cent since the Conservatives came to power in 2010 – the lowest levels in recent history.
“I wouldn’t expect her to endorse government policy but her claims are simply wrong.”
Cllr Carter (pictured)  said in Warrington South the number of people who are claiming key out-of-work benefits has fallen by 467 since 2010 – an overall reduction of 23 per cent, while in neighbouring Warrington North there are 581 less claiming benefits.”
The Conservative Prospective Parliamentary candidate for Warrington South added: “This is great news for Warrington, both for residents and businesses in our borough. These figures also show our balanced approach to the economy is working. There are more people in work than ever before, and the Conservatives will continue to help people build a better future for themselves and their families.
“Labour don’t know how to handle the economy and would hurt the people they claim they want to help, just like last time. In fact, every time Labour leave office they leave the country with more unemployment than when they came to power.”
He added: “With employment in the UK at a record high – including a record number of women in work and a record number of full-time jobs -more people than ever before have the economic independence that a job brings and can reach their full potential. Behind every employment number is a person and a family whose self-esteem, mental wellbeing, economic circumstances and life chances are all vastly improved by being in the workplace.”
