Country music legend Charlie Landsborough will call at Parr Hall in May on an extensive farewell tour. Known as the UK’s premier country music singer, Charlie plans to hang up his guitar, and retire from touring to concentrate on writing and recording music. The musician’s live shows transcend country music and encompass beautiful ballads, folk, blues, rock n roll, pop, gospel and anthems, going some way to explaining his popularity.

Music – An Evening with Alan McGee (8pm)

Music mogul Alan McGee will be sharing stories about discovering Oasis and working with bands like Primal Scream when he visits Pyramid this May. The Scottish businessman and music industry executive has been a record label owner, musician, manager and music blogger for The Guardian. He is best known for co-founding and running the independent Creation Records label and is the man who discovered and signed Oasis.

Variety – An Audience with Mark Billy Billingham – Friday 17th May 2019 (7.30m)

Former SAS Sergeant Major and bodyguard to the stars Mark Billy Billingham is TV’s most experienced, highest-ranking and most decorated SAS leader and sniper. After more than 20 years serving in the SAS, Billy worked as a bodyguard to A-list celebrities like Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise and many others. He is recognisable as one of the stars of SAS: Who Dares Wins and also appeared in the 2015 action film The Gunman starring Sean Penn.

Literature – John Cooper Clarke – Wednesday 29th May 2019 (7pm)

Poet, movie star, rock star, TV and radio presenter, comedian, and social and cultural comedian; not many people can claim to be all of the above, but Dr John Cooper Clarke can. He shot to prominence in the 1970s as the original people’s poet and since then his career has spanned cultures, audiences, art forms and continents. JCC is as relevant and vibrant as ever, and his influence is just as visible in today’s pop culture.

Exhibitions

Unless otherwise stated the following event are free and take place at Warrington Museum & Art Gallery

Peace at Last – Until 4th May

Peace at Last is the final instalment in a series of exhibitions to commemorate the First World War. Visitors will discover what life was like for soldiers returning home from the horrors of war and how life for Warrington’s inhabitants changed forever. The exhibition will include research collected by local history groups.

NOW / Fear of the Unknown – Saturday 6th April – Saturday 15th June 2019

NOW / Fear of the Unknown is a group exhibition of new work by final year students at Warrington and Vale Royal College. Taking Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror as their starting point for inspiration, the work explores the pressures that are put on students either by society or themselves at this point in their artistic and academic careers. Subjects explored include self-identity and social conformity, while the work on display combines traditional and non-traditional media including interactive installations.

Alice Cornelia: Back Now – Saturday 13th April – Saturday 22nd June 2019

Back Now is a new solo exhibition by Alice Cornelia, following her highly commended award in the 2018 Warrington Contemporary Open exhibition. Back Now explores mediums of social representation with the aim of exposing gaps in our visual information. The body of work questions boundaries between documentary and fiction, with a playful relationship between representation and abstraction and between moving image and the still image.

Crafternoons!

Saturdays 1pm – 3pm

Get messy with free craft activities for children at Warrington Museum & Art Gallery. Crafternoons take place between 1pm and 3pm every Saturday and have a new and exciting theme every single week. Last admission is 2.45pm. All children must be accompanied by an adult, recommended age 3yrs+. Booking is not required.
