Raven Inn campaigners to battle on

CAMPAIGNERS fighting to save Glazebury’s Raven Inn from demolition are to battle on despite Historic England refusing to consider listing the building at present.
They are continuing to urge local people to object to an application to demolish the 16th century inn and replace it with 10 houses.
A spokeswoman for the Save the Raven group, said: ” The group will continue to oppose the plans. Whilst it’s disappointed Historic England aren’t in a position to list the building the group will continue to explore all its options and would again urge the public to contact Warrington Borough Council to oppose the proposed development.”
At least to applications have been made to Historic England to have the black-and-white half-timbered building protected by a Grade 2 listing.
But Jeremy Wright, Secretary of State for culture has said he is not prepared to consider listing at the present time.
Warrington Borough Council can still refuse planning consent for the scheme, however.
Planning officers have yet to make recommendations to the borough council-s development management committee.
The proposal has caused an uproar among local residents.
The Raven closed in September with the licensee’s citing unprofitability as the reason.
