Three year contract extension for Wolves’ Jack Hughes

WARRINGTON Wolves’ second row Jack Hughes has agreed a three–year contract extension keeping him at the club for a further four years until November 2022.

Hughes, 26, joined the club ahead of the 2016 season having previously played for Wigan Warriors and Huddersfield Giants. He has gone on to make 99 appearances including 36 last season, missing just one game all year.

He’s crossed for 21 tries and holds heritage number 1123.

He rounded off 2018 by being named captain of the England Knights squad for their two-match International Test against Papua New Guinea.

Hughes said: “Everything is going well at the club on and off the field. Since Karl (Fitzpatrick) took over and Steve (Price) came in as head coach things have got exciting and I’m glad to be here. To extend my stay at the club was an easy decision for me as I’m really happy to be spending more years within this squad, and to hopefully get the first grand final win for the club which everyone is working hard towards and striving for as the ultimate aim again this year; to be part of that would be something special.

“Leadership is something that has come into my game more over recent seasons and to be England Knights captain was a really good experience as I look to progress myself as a leader over time. At the moment morale is high in the squad. Pricey always talks about bringing good people into the club and you can clearly see he’s done that this year with his recruitment. The squad is looking exciting and strong, the sooner the season comes round the better.”

Head coach Steve Price added: “It’s great news for our club to re-sign Jack. He’s been an integral part of our team this year and I love everything that he stands for. He’s the ultimate club person and is a player who all team members love to play alongside. He does all the little things that often go unnoticed and typifies our DNA. I was really pleased with his selection as England Knights captain and I see him playing a big part within the leadership of our club over the years to come.”
