Residents and councillors raise traffic issue concerns over “affordable” homes plan

A PLAN to build 17 “affordable” houses on land adjoining the Star Inn at Lymm is being opposed by councillors, nearby residents and Lymm Parish Council.
They claim developers Clarion Housing Group are trying to squeeze too many properties onto the site, that the scheme will exacerbate traffic problems on Star Lane and will rob two  bungalows of privacy in nearby Turnberry Close.
But planning officers are recommending the scheme be approved.
The parish council and residents and councillors raise traffic issue concerns over “affordable” homes planorough councillors Ian Marks and Anna Fradgley support the principle of affordable homes on the site. But they are opposed to the detailed development – as are 18 local residents
Main concern is the access to the development which all the objectors claim will cause road safety issues.
An existing bungalow facing onto Star Lane would be demolished under the scheme and be replaced by a house. Objectors believe this property should be omitted from the scheme.
Cllr Fradgley claimed the developers were not listening to the concerns of local residents. She said the site access came out on to a blind bend on Star Lane. While it had a 20mph speed limit this was rarely enforced and seldom adhered to.
She was also concerned that there were 17 properties in the plan.
“Just because they are affordable homes does not mean they should be squeezed into the plot” she said.
