Nurse shortlisted for top national award

A WARRINGTON nurse has been shortlisted for a major dementia care award.
Kathryn Penrith works as a consultant Admiral nurse and dementia expert for health and social care charity Making Space.
She is one of five finalists waiting to hear if she will be named best dementia nurse specialist in the National Dementia Care Awards.
Kathryn works across the UK, sharing her knowledge and expertise across her Bewsey-based employer Making Space’s national services, which include carer support, respite care, an independent hospital and supported housing.
Kathryn worked as an NHS nurse in West Yorkshire for 18 years before becoming a dementia specialist. She is currently studying part time at UCLAN for a Professional Doctorate in Health.
Colleague Michael McLaughlin said: “Kathryn truly deserves this award.
“She works tirelessly to ensure Making Space’s services are at the cutting edge of dementia best practice and never runs out of energy or compassion.”
Admiral nurses are specialist dementia nurses who give expert practical and emotional care and support to families living with dementia.
The winner will be announced at the National Dementia Congress in Brighton.
