MIDFIELDER Liam Hynes has left Warrington Town to join league rivals Marine.
Hynes, 24, suffered a serious knee injury just minutes in to the third game of last season away at Coalville Town.
That ruled him out of the rest of the campaign, with the club investing in a comprehensive rehabilitation programme and he made his next, and what would be his fourth and final, appearance for Warrington in the season opener against Farsley Celtic last month.
He went AWOL for the Bank Holiday Monday match against Bamber Bridge and has now completed a move elsewhere.
Yellows chairman, Toby Macormac, said: “I’ve no issue in players departing even if it’s to the same level but it’s disappointing how it’s happened.
“We’d invested a lot of money in Liam on and off the field with 12 months of professional rehabilitation with someone whose worked with Olympians, professional boxers and footballers in an effort to have him as part of the squad this season.
“It’s no secret I’ve made financial changes this season but everyone who stayed was aware and that coupled with the fact that Paul was managing his game time back from a serious injury wasn’t what the player thought was right.”
Hynes moved to Warrington last summer having previously played for Southport, Stalybridge and Redditch.
In the Marine announcement of his signing, Hynes said: “I’m delighted for the opportunity & looking forward to playing as it’s a local club with loads of ambition – I know a couple of the lads and I know they work hard on an off the pitch.
“Every time I’ve played against Marine they’ve always worked hard on the pitch and never an easy game. I’m looking forward to being part of it this season and enjoying my football.”
It caps a frustrating week for Yellows chiefs, with the long-running saga over international clearance for the experienced David Raven only being resolved late on Friday night.
