FIREFIGHTERS from Birchwood were called to tackle a large crop fire at Culcheth, Warrington, last night.
The large fire had broken out in a field on New Hall Lane, measuring approximately 100 square metres shortly after 9pm.
Crews used beaters and a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

The fire was started by 3 teenagers who had been out there all evening talking.
They might of started it by accident or on purpose but either way it was started by a total disregard to anyone’s safety and no care for wildlife and the farmer who needs the hay to feed his cattle.
I was in the my garden all evening and witnessed them come back and say we need to try and put it out .
The fire brigade used my garden to gain access to the field.
This isn’t the first time it’s happened but with all the teenagers out there smoking weed it’s just a matter of time before it happens again.
Why did your report say the fire is believed to be accidental as this is not what the fire brigade have stated?
