THERE was a great turn out from villagers for the 71 st Whitley Rose Queen Fete keeping the fabulous traditional village community event alive.
The entertainment last Saturday began with a parade, starting at the school and then around the village, ending at the village hall field. Music was provided by the Frodsham Silver Band.
The 2017 and 2018 Rose Queen Retinues, local school children, pre-school children and vintage vehicles, participated in the parade.
Rose Queen 2018 Kristie Underdown was crowned accompanied by her retinue, accessorised in red followed by an afternoon of entertainment.
This started with the pre-school fancy dress competition and a superb performance of The Greatest Showman was performed by the pupils of Whitley Village School. They danced and sang many songs from the film. They were in striking costumes and well-rehearsed.
Mrs Kim Cairns Acting Headteacher said “Every year the children are so excited about the Rose Queen; we love being part of such a close community. Both children and staff had worked really hard for the show and I am sure everyone will agree that this year really was exceptional. We were so proud of our children”.
Throughout the afternoon there were games, stalls, tombola and raffle with great prizes. Last but not least the Great Whitley Pig Race and tug of war challenge took place.
Organisers would like to thank all those who supported this lovely event and wish Whitley Rose Queen 2018 Kristie a great year!
