Plans for new hospital and wellbeing campus are revealed

DESIGNS and details for a proposed new Halton Hospital and Wellbeing Campus have been unveiled.
Staff from Warrington and Halton Hospitals, Northwest Boroughs and elected members of Halton Borough Council were given a detail look at the proposals.
The designs showed the concept of a hospital and wellbeing facility nestled in a community dedicated to physical and mental health and wellbeing which has major implications for patients in Warrington, Halton and beyond
In a planned redevelopment of the entire Halton hospitals site, the state-of-the-art Cheshire and Merseyside Treatment Centre would be considerably extended to create the hospital and wellbeing centre into which all current services delivered at the General Hospital and Brooker Centre would be transferred.
Mel Pickup, chief executive and Prof Simon Constable executive medical director of Warrington and Halton Hospitals and Lindsey Maloney of Northwest Boroughs were joined by David Parr, chief executive of Halton borough council together described the vision for the campus.
Ms Pickup said: “It’s important to see that all services currently delivered at the General Hospital and Brooker Centre will be transferred into the new centre without interruption to current service delivery. This will be enabled by phased construction and will also see an increase in floor space to 27K M2 – a seven per cent increase on existing space.
“The reconfiguration of the existing hospital site will create a unique, state-of-the-art hospital and wellbeing centre and release unused NHS land for construction of a range of supporting health and wellbeing facilities such as a nursing home, nursery, rehabilitation centre, community centre, wellness centre, multigenerational housing – all interspersed with communal areas such as growing spaces, pet parks, gardens, woodland walks and cycle paths.
“This is a really exciting time for our staff, patients and our communities and is a very positive move towards helping the community of Halton Lea enjoy better outcomes with improved health and wellbeing.
“All the design concepts are the result of considerable input from health and social care professionals and our communities and further engagement and involvement sessions are planned for the coming weeks and months. We urge everyone to get involved and be part of what will be a unique and very special place to live and work.”
The hospital and wellbeing campus project team has submitted a bid for £40m capital to fund the hospital reconfiguration to NHS England and the outcome is due imminently.
