Shops evacuated after staff made ill by chemical leak from toilet

THE Forge shopping centre and car park at Stockton Heath was cordoned off after staff at a shop became unwell following a leak of fumes from a chemical toilet.

Firefighters were called to a report of a possible chemical leak at a bookshop in the Forge Shopping Centre, Stockton Heath at 17.14pm yesterday evening.

When they arrived crews found that there was fumes coming from a chemical toilet at the premises. This had caused some discomfort to several members of staff.

The premises and surrounding shops were evacuated to enable crews to fully assess the situation. Ambulance crews are also at the scene treating two staff members who felt unwell.

Police cordoned off the area for several hours as a precaution during the investigations.

  1. The charity bookshop use to be a hairdressers with proper toilets from what I can remember. Odd that it now has a chemical toilet…. surely all the shops units there have a water supply and drainage to the mains sewer pipes.
    Anyway never mind…and I’m glad to hear that’s all it was and that everyone is ok.
