Play time at Woolston’s woodland wonderland

Work has been completed on a new, woodland-themed playground in Woolston.

The £70,000 development at Poulton Crescent Play Area, Woolston Park, has seen the existing area completely refurbished, providing a range of sparkling, new play equipment, brand new furniture and improved accessibility.

Aimed at children aged two to eight, the project has given a new lease of life to this part of Woolston Park. The Friends of the Park have renamed it the ‘Lime Tree Play Area’.

Executive board member for culture, leisure and community, Cllr Tony Higgins, joined the Friends of the Park and children from local nursery, Puddleducks, to admire the new-look playground.

He said: “This fantastic new play area is part of our ongoing investment in our parks and green spaces.

“Children and families will benefit from a much more colourful, exciting, safe and accessible play area. It’s yet another great reason for local people to get out and about and enjoy some fresh air and exercise at Woolston Park.”

Grant funding of £50,000 was awarded by WREN’s FCC Community Action Fund for the scheme, which started on site at end of October. The council contributed a further £20,000 towards the project.

Richard Smith, WREN’s grant manager for Warrington, said: “It’s wonderful to see something we have funded finally open and ready to make such a difference to children and young people across Woolston.

“WREN is always happy to consider grant applications for projects that benefit local communities and this is a great example of what can be achieved.”
