WARRINGTON police are appealing for help to trace a man who carried out a Post Office robbery armed with a “gun” after arriving outside the premises on a pedal bike .
The robbery took place at approximately 6.10am on Saturday (Jan 7), when one man, riding a bicycle approached the Post Office on Poplars Avenue, Warrington. Once outside the store the man left his bike by the main entrance and entered the store.
Once inside the store he approached the counter and threatened a member of staff, demanding that they opened the till and put all of the money into a carrier bag.
The shop worker opened the till and handed over the money. The offender then left the store via the main entrance onto Poplars Avenue and fled the scene on his bicycle in the direction of Greenwood Avenue.
The offender is described as approximately 5ft 9 inches tall with a gaunt face. He was wearing dark clothing, with a scarf covering his nose and lower face and a black hooded top covering his hair. The man was believed to be carrying a handgun in his left hand, although it has not yet been established if the gun was real or imitation.
DC Ian Bingley said: “This investigation is in its early stages and we’re currently following a number of lines enquiry, including CCTV analysis and speaking to local residents. We are also establishing whether this incident is linked to a similar robbery that occurred in the Cinnamon Brow area on 4/1/2017.
“We take all incidents of this nature seriously and are doing all we can to trace the offender. No injuries were reported and the weapon was not discharged. However, understandably the member of staff who was in the store at the time of the incident has been left very extremely shaken.
“As part of the investigation I’m keen to hear from anyone who was in the Poplars Avenue area at the time this incident occurred and believes that they may have seen anything suspicious. I urge anyone with any information to contact the team here at Warrington on 101.”
