A young offender who was caught in the act of pouring superglue on a bench in Warrington town centre, spent the best part of two hours today, helping repair the damage.

CCTV operators viewed the juvenile male on Sankey Street last month pouring superglue over a bench before making off.

Police officers were alerted and detained the youngster coming out of a shop in Golden Square. He was taken home to his mother whilst police come up with a suitable way of dealing with an offence of Criminal Damage.

This morning he was collected by a police officer and brought back into town. He had to give up the best part of two hours assisting the town centre warden who was restoring the bench so it could be brought back into use.

A police spokesperson said: “This is another use of Restorative Justice – used to target low level criminal behaviour and steer the offender back onto the right track.”
