MP lends support to housing campaign

WARRINGTON South MP David Mowat is set to meet with the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) to discuss concerns over the impact of 900 new homes in the south of the borough.

Local Lib-Dem councillors who have been leading the challenge against the proposals by the HCA to build the 900 new homes in three areas – Pewterspear Green, Grappenhall Heys and Appleton Cross, have welcomed Mr Mowat’s involvement.

Councillor Ryan Bate said: “We understand that Warrington South MP David Mowat will finally be meeting with HCA representatives next week to discuss these developments. This follows the many meetings which Lib Dem councillors have had with the HCA and senior council officers.

“We have also organised two very well attended public meetings, which gave residents a chance to express their worries. We hope that our MP shares our serious concerns about the impact on the area, not least in terms of traffic infrastructure and health provision.

“It’s good to see he is investing some of his time on this important issue. We hope that be can add his influence to the campaign which we started several months ago. Several residents have asked what his position is, so we will be listening carefully to his public stance on the development proposals.”

Mr Mowat said: “We have a national housing shortage and, without radical action, the dream of home ownership will remain just a dream for our children and grandchildren.

“It’s quite right that our town will need significant upgrades to its infrastructure if it is to accommodate the amount of new homes being suggested. But that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t build any more houses.

“I’ll be stressing, to the HCA, the importance of ensuring that, as the number of homes increases, the amount of schools, roads and all other services increase as well.”

  1. “Local Lib-Dem councillors who have been leading the challenge against the proposals by the HCA to build the 900 new homes………….”
    Blah, blah, blah, blah,
It was the local Lib Dem councillors who forced through the building of the new primary school in Stockton Heath, creating 100 extra pupil places when there were already 900 surplus pupil places and thus provided the education infrastructure for the future developments.
What is the point of them having more meaningless talks with HCA re “traffic infrastructure and health provision” ? We’re still waiting for the Howshoots Link and the medical centre promised when the last round of housing developments were built.
All just a load of political posturing and publicity seeking!
