Next step in the battle to stop HS2

CAMPAIGNERS opposed to the controversial HS2 rail route through Warrington have announced the date of a public meeting to discuss their next steps.
The Culcheth and District Rail Action Group (CADRAG) has called the meeting for Thursday, December 8 at 7.30pm in the Village Club in Wigshaw Lane, Culcheth.
Although the route through the Culcheth area has been amended to avoid the Taylor Business Park – saving 500 jobs – and Culcheth Linear Park it will still have a massive impact on the village and on Hollins Green.
As well as the noise of the trains, the construction phase will cause significant disruption and nuisance, and the environment will be spoiled by the massive structures to be built.    Several local roads will be disrupted during construction, and some would be closed permanently.
The public meeting will consider how best to continue the fight to stop the line through Culcheth from being built.

There are some restricted government consultations going on, and also a two year period of informal consultation with HS2 is about to start, with the objective of refining the route.    Following this, a Hybrid Bill will have to go through Parliament starting in 2019, and we will have the possibility of petitioning Parliament during this.
CADRAG chairman Frank Allen said anyone who wanted to get involved in the campaign should attend the meeting when more information would be available.
Warrington’s MPs, local councillors and the borough council are still opposed the section of HS2 which cuts through the borough.
