THE first phase of regeneration work to transform highways and surroundings in Bewsey and Dallam has begun.

The Grey to Green project is one of many developments being spearheaded by Warrington Borough Council and partners through the ‘Delivering Wellbeing in Bewsey and Dallam’ initiative.

Over the next few years, the initiative will deliver a programme of regeneration in the area that will improve the physical environment and aims to improve the social wellbeing of local residents.

The first phase of the project will see improvements to footpaths and roads, including planting of new greenery, updated signage and additional leisure and resident parking.

Improvements will also be made to key entrance locations on Longshaw Street with tree planting taking place along Folly Lane up to Dallam Brook Bridge.

Changes will also be made to cycle routes through the estate, as part of the east to west corridor, to improve paths for the safety of cyclists.

Phase 2 of the project will see a new pedestrian area including a large raised junction with zebra crossings, tree planting and footway/highway improvements, linking Bewsey and Dallam.

As part of a new local safety initiative the junction at Longshaw Street and Hawleys Lane will be realigned to allow for safer pedestrian crossing and improved vehicle visibility.

There will also be an extension to the playing fields carpark and cycle way improvements on Hawley’s Lane.

Cllr Hans Mundry, executive board member for highways, transportation and public realm, said: “The vision for Bewsey and Dallam is to transform the area and the services available there. We want to deliver sustainable change for residents to help build stronger, more resilient and more active communities.

“It’s great news that the Grey to Green project is under way and I’m looking forward to it bringing immediate benefits to the community, providing a greener, safer and healthier environment for local people.”

Bewsey and Whitecross ward councillors, Sarah Hall, Tom Jennings and Steve Wright, thanked the council for the project, saying: “On behalf of residents, we welcome this wonderful initiative. It will transform the local area, creating an environment we can all be proud of.”
