Call for action after road rage vandalism

A councillor is calling for action after an incident of “road rage” outside a shopping parade at Warrington.

Great Sankey South councillor Amanda King visited the area at Hood Manor shops at the weekend to inspect the damage and meet with local shop workers,  after a car was witnessed driving into the road sign on the junction of Dorchester Road.

As a result, the sign has been left lying on the kerb, the grass verge has been badly damaged, and the nearby street sign has also been destroyed.

Councillor King is renewing her call for CCTV in the area to stop similar incidents and improve safety around Hood Manor Shopping Centre.

She said: “This is not the first time that residents and local shop workers have witnessed anti-social behaviour, but this incident was by far the most dangerous. It is a miracle that no one was hurt.

“At the weekend, I visited the area to give residents reassurance that their local councillors are doing everything they can, working alongside our police and PCSOs, to tackle anti-social behaviour and improve safety for both staff and customers in Hood Manor.

“I have asked the Council to re-instate the road sign urgently, repair the damage to the grass verge, and arrange for a new street sign to be installed.

“Although the first step must be to make safe the current damage, this incident serves to re-enforce the need for CCTV to be installed outside the Shopping Centre. I have been working with local residents on this, to collect a petition which we will deliver to the Borough Council. There is a very strong feeling locally that CCTV is needed sooner rather than later. We want to not only improve safety and give the police the tools to catch offenders, but deter anyone minded to behave in an anti-social way in our community.”

Any residents wishing to add their name to Councillor King’s petition for CCTV in Hood Manor Shopping Centre can contact her by emailing [email protected] or calling 07815 164 966.

  1. Blimey if that was done with a car as an act of ‘road rage’ or ‘vandalism’ I’d love to see what state the car is in now.
To knock down a sign of that size with two ‘legs’, which from the photo looks to have been set into concrete, then the car must be pretty trashed and I’m surprised it was able to drive away. Why would anyone want to damage their car like that or was it perhaps stolen…bloody idiots either way.
