THE Met Office is forecasting sunshine and blustery showers for Warrington Walking day on Friday, heavy at times, perhaps with thunder and hail!
But the weather forecast wont stop thousands of people lining and walking the streets as the ever popular event gets underway.
At precisely 10.30am the members of the parish church will, by tradition, walk through the Town Hall ceremonial gates to begin the procession followed by other churches and faiths taking part.
More than 4,000 people are expected to participate again this year as a way of proclaiming their faith.
Warrington’s much-loved annual occasion has been giving an enormous amount of pleasure for more than a 100 years both to those walking and those watching along the route. It is regarded as a step towards the erasure of historical differences between the various churches and their ecumenical aims.
Warrington’s Mayor, Cllr Faisal Rashid, said: “The popularity of this event just demonstrates how great the community spirit is in Warrington. Once again people are getting out there to show unity and openness. It is something to be really proud of and I will be honoured to be taking part in the walk.”
Meanwhile with heavy rain hitting the town today, more is forecast for tomorrow and throughout the weekend, with other events scheduled to take place including Stockton Heath Festival and Croft Carnival.
