FORMER Warrington Rugby League Club forward Alan “Rambo” Rathbone has died aged 57.

He played at Rochdale, Leigh and Bradford, before joining his home town club Warrington for two seasons from 1985-1987 and also won six Great Britain caps during his time at Bradford.

With a reputation as a hard man in the game, Rathbone left Warrington and signed for Leeds but only made one brief appearance before being forced to retire through injury.

He played in the second row and at loose forward.

He had been suffering with poor health in recent months.
