New warning over scam PPI calls

RESIDENTS of Warrington are being warned about a scam PPI reclaim company cold-calling in the town and demanding that hundreds of £s be sent to them.
The warning comes from Warrington Consumer Alert Network – iCAN – after a resident called concerned for her mother who was being targeted by a PPI reclaim company who asked for a money transfer of £300.
Luckily no money was handed over – but the woman was pestered with calls by the company who even said they would send someone to her home to collect the money.
Peter Astley, (pictured) Warrington Borough Council’s assistant director for regulation and public protection said: “We advise residents to be extremely cautious if they receive such calls and would certainly
warn them not to hand over any money to any business which contacts them in this manner.
“Unfortunately the number of fakes and scams seem to be ever on the increase with residents needing to be on their guard against any cold callers asking them to hand over money.”
Residents can help protect themselves and be ahead of the scammers by signing up to iCAN – a free messaging service which lets you know when the latest cons hit the town.
Messages are sent by pre-recorded telephone, mobile, text message or email, alerting you that cold callers are active in the area.
