LABOUR has released the names of candidates so far chosen for the all-out borough council elections to take place on May 5.
Nick Bent, the party’s South Warrington spokesman said: “Our candidate selection is nearly complete, and soon we will have great candidates for every ward. So far, our Labour team are a superb mix of new talent and strong experience.
“Our conversations with the voters start on Saturday and we will work closely with council leader Terry O’Neill to publish a strong, positive manifesto setting out Labour’s vision and plan for the whole of Warrington to 2020.
“Personally, I am delighted I was selected for Appleton, as I’d hoped. I’m about to move house from Great Sankey to Stockton Heath so I hope to represent a seat in my new home area.
“Appleton is the strongest Tory ward in Warrington and I want to take Labour’s positive message to every community and win new support.
“I’m also glad to be standing as a Labour and Co-operative candidate. All my life, I’ve supported the co-operative movement’s values of ethical business and mutualism. These values fit well with a town like Warrington.”
In Warrington North, the Party promised a”fresh approach” and “unmatched enthusiasm” as they launched their campaign.
The line-up of Labour candidates selected so far is:
Appleton: Nick Bent

Labour have achieved their aim of having at least one woman candidate in each ward. But to do so, they have had to move a number of experienced councillors to different wards – and about seven current councillors have been deselected.

Obviously Nick Bent does not know Appleton well enough to realize it has been solid Lib Dem for local elections for many years
Little does Nick Bent know of the area he professes to be standing for! The second time he has stated that Appleton is a strong Tory ward. Perhaps he should take a look at the list of councillors for him to realise that Appleton actually has 3 Liberal Democrats. Once a blue always a blue irrelevant if he thinks he is now a Labour activist! His morals will always be conservative.
I got very confused reading the article as I always thought Appleton was strong Lib Dem hold too.
Maybe Mr Bent is just getting himself confused because of the new (and ridiculous) boundary changes.
I don’t even know where I fit in electorally any more since today’s announcement other than possibly now Stockton Heath or Appleton or if any of the names on this list actually apply to me.
