Bonfire night keeps firefighters busy

FIREFIGHTERS across Cheshire were kept busy last night dealing with out-of-control bonfires – including one at Frodsham.
One fire engine from the town’s fire station was called to a house in Overton Close, Frodsham shortly after 9.30pm to deal with a bonfire in the garden.
Crews used a hose reel jet to extinguish the blaze and there were no reports of damage to property.
Across the county more than a dozen out-of-control bonfires and firework incidents were reported, including several large fires.  A number of other incidents could also have been related to Guy Fawkes night.

A small fire in Windermere Avenue, Orford, Warrington, did not appear to be related to Bonfire Night celebrations. Firefighters extinguished it using a hand-held extinguisher.

But in the early hours of today, a fire engine from Warrington went to Arley Road, Appleton, where a large, unattended bonfire was still burning. They extinguished it with a hose reel jet.

Fire chiefs are bracing themselves for more incidents tonight and tomorrow as many people will have opted to delay November 5 celebrations to the weekend or in the hope of better weather.
