Police chiefs go back on the frontline

MORE than 40 senior police officers, from the chief constable down, are to go back to the frontline to experience first-hand the roles and pressures their staff face on a daily basis.
It’s the first time the exercise has been carried out by Cheshire Police and the aim is to remind the senior managers what the public want from policing.
Chief constable Simon Byrne said, “I really value the work our officers and staff do and frequently spend time on patrol.
“I have a simple message; you can’t lead a police force from behind your desk.  This collective effort signals how important being visible and approachable is.  We all need to know what makes the place tick and understand and remove the barriers to provide a great service to the public.”
Other leaders taking part include:-
•Deputy chief constable Janette McCormick responding to emergency calls
•Assistant chief constable Guy Hindle responding to emergency calls
•Head of uniform operations Beverley Raistrick working with dog handlers
•Head of IT Andrew Herndlhofer answering calls on the IT service desk
•Head of HR Nick Bailey with a beat management team.
