Girl in hospital after “legal high” scare

A 16-year-old girl has been admitted to hospital today – sparking further concerns over the use of the “legal high” substance Vertex.
Three men and a woman were taken to Warrington Hospital yesterday amid similar concerns although police have since said it is not believed the woman had used Vertex.
Evidence suggests that the teenage girl admitted today – who is from Runcorn – had consumed the substance.
Police are becoming increasingly concerned over this particular substance and are investigating where it has been purchased, and intend to speak to anyone known to have consumed it.
Assistant Chief Constable Mark Roberts said: “We are extremely concerned that this substance would appear to have led to a number of people being hospitalised in a serious condition. I would strongly urge people not to take this specific substance, Vertex, and for people to be aware of the dangers of taking any substance known as a legal high.
“If people have taken this or any other substances and have concerns about their health they should contact the medical services as soon as possible.”
