WHAT part do Special Constables play in the policing of Warrington?
Cheshire Police are this weekend showcasing the work “Specials” do – and people who attend will be able to taste the “Bobby Blue” ice cream that has been named after them.
The event spans Saturday and Sunday and in the Northern Area – which includes Warrington, Specials will be carrying out licensing checks on rural and town centre locations with Trading Standards as well as a host of other activities including advice visits to owners of high-risk of theft vehicles.
There will be a major event at The Ice Cream Farm at Tattenhall where the  Bobby Blue ice cream has been created.
There is a colouring competition which police are running through their social media for children to receive a free teddy bear cone of Bobby Blue on Saturday.
Special Constables will also have a recruitment display at The Ice Cream Farm as well as carrying out cycle marking to visiting cyclists – a popular stopping off point for them.
Cheshire Constabulary will also be launching its Cycle Watch Scheme there.
Cheshire Special Constabulary’s new chief officer, Celvyn Jones said: “This weekend is designed to showcase the tremendous work Cheshire Special Constables carry out across the communities of Cheshire and how they keep those who live, work and visit Cheshire safe each and every day.
“I encourage members of the public to engage with the team over this weekend and consider if and how you can help support Cheshire Police and your community in your free time.”
Police and Crime Commissioner John Dwyer said: “We are fortunate here in Cheshire to have a wide range of volunteers who bring their skills and experience to different roles and enhance policing. All the work that is done by all of our volunteers, including Special Constables, makes a valuable contribution to policing, and their commitment doesn’t go unrecognised.
“Specials Weekend always shows residents the excellent work Cheshire’s Special Constables are doing and how they are contributing to keeping our communities safe.”
