COUNCIL chiefs across the Cheshire and Warrington sub-region believe the Government’s proposed “Northern Powerhouse” initiative will present a large number of opportunities for growth.
The leaders of Warrington Borough Council, Cheshire East Council and Cheshire West and Chester Council met at their Economic Prosperity Board and agreed to move swiftly to take advantage of any opportunities.
Cllr Terry O’Neill, leader of Warrington Borough Council, said: “We agreed that the Government’s devolved powers agenda in context of the Northern Powerhouse presents a large number of opportunities for economic growth and further reform and transformation of public services.
“It was agreed that a set of propositions regarding devolution of powers and resources be put to the Government quickly in order to maximise the opportunities that the government has indicated are on offer.”
The public services leaders board is a partnership which brings together key public sector organisations working across Cheshire and Warrington. Originally established following local government re-organisation of the Cheshire authorities in 2009, the board is now in its fifth year of partnership working.
