Skipper sent off as Town taste defeat

WARRINGTON Town’s five game unbeaten run came to an end with a disappointing 3-1 defeat at Bamber Bridge.
After a bright opening spell Warrington took the lead on 21 minutes when striker Ben Wharton (pictured right) broke clear and kept his cool to beat the keeper with his first goal of the season.
Then on 35 minutes Warrington had a great chance to double their lead as the Bamber Bridge keeper pulled off a fine double save first denying Wharton and then saving Robert Booth’s follow up shot.
To rub salt in the wounds Bridge broke up field and from a corner and goal mouth scramble Andrew Bell blasted the ball into the roof of the net, giving stand in keeper Zak Hibbert, deputising for the injured Karl Wills, no chance.
Warrington never really got going in a disappointing second half and the home side took the lead on 66 minutes with a flying header from the unmarked AlistairWaddecar inside the box.
Scott Metcalfe almost equalised for Warrington on 70 minutes with his shot just wide of the post but then on 80 minutes the hosts extended their lead with another close range header from inside the box through substitute Danny Leigh.
Things then went from bad to worse as Warrington skipper David Mannix (pictured top) saw red for a second bookable offence.
Warrington are next in action on Saturday when they welcome Sheffield FC to the Winner Recruitment Stadium in the 2nd qualifying round of the FA Cup, kick off 3pm.
