Collegiate honours outstanding success

WARRINGTON Collegiate held its bigger ever annual awards ceremony for Higher Education Students at St Elphins Church.
More than 600 guests attended the ceremony to recognise the determination and commitment of students who have completed HNCs,HNDs, Foundation Degrees, Teacher Training as well as higher level Apprenticeships and professional qualifications. The support provided by the families, friends and partners of students graduating was acknowledged by the Principal, Paul Hafren in his speech highlighting the many successes and achievements of the past academic year.
Paul said: “Our students work hard to produce fantastic results and the ceremony is a great way to recognise their achievements. Students at Warrington Collegiate graduate not only with a qualification, but also with a collection of unforgettable memories and lasting friendships.
“We wish them every success as they move on to continue their studies or progress onto employment.”
As well as the academic certificates several students also received special awards for outstanding achievement in their subject area.
Emma Ratcliffe, graduating in Association of Accountancy Technicians (AAT ) Level 4, was awarded the Professional Student of the Year and fellow Accountancy student Rachel Parsley won the Higher Apprenticeship Award.
She said: “I’m thrilled to be chosen, it really is a great honour to be named Higher Apprentice of the Year. All the hard work is worth it, and I’m determined to continue studying to become a Chartered accountant.”
The Outstanding Achievement Award went to Mark Taylor, who graduated in HNC Business. It marked a double celebration for Mark, who was also named Student of the Year 2013 by the University of Chester.
The Harry Cunningham Award is presented to a student who has overcome particular difficulties in their chosen path of study. Harry Cunningham was a Fellow of Warrington Collegiate and had a life long association with the college.
It was won by Helen Leach, graduating in CIPD Human Resource Management, Level 5, and she said: “This is so unexpected. I couldn’t have done this without the support of my college tutor, family and friends; thank you to everyone involved.”
Student of the year, Sponsored by Wickes, was HND in Electrical and Electronic Engineering graduate, Tommy Smith.
