PUBLIC sector partners across Warrington, Halton and Cheshire are celebrating after confirmation by the Department of Communities and Local Government that the sub-region has been awarded £420,000 to re-shape the provision of community services.
The project aims to tackle fragmentation in the delivery of services to tackle domestic violence, anti-social behaviour and alcohol abuse and to reduce re-offending, removing duplication and improving outcomes for service users.
Cllr Michael Jones, chairman of the sub-regional leadership board said: “This is great news for Cheshire, Warrington and Halton and further demonstration that Government sees our sub-region as one that is at the forefront of delivering real change in public service delivery.
“At the moment the community safety landscape is too complex, with over 100 different initiatives costing nearly £40 million. This project will
transform the delivery of community safety into an effective, efficient and joined-up response to the problems of domestic violence, alcohol abuse, and anti-social behaviour, and at the same time provide better support for offenders to reduce the likelihood that they will offend again.”
Cheshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner John Dwyer expressed his delight at the award.
He said: “This award is allowing local authorities, the police, fire service and probation to collaborate and help reduce crime and reoffending across Cheshire. The money received from this award demonstrates that community safety is high on the agenda for all agencies in Cheshire and this is being supported by local government.”
Work on the project starts straight away and should be completed within two years.
