Makeover for housing estates

THREE Warrington housing estates got a rapid mini makeover – thanks to an army of volunteers including 50 top-flight graduates from water company United Utilities.
Gardens in Bewsey and Dallam, communal areas in Latchford and a reclaimed garage area in Longford were singled out for the Ground Force treatment as part of a challenge to mark the start of the company’s graduate celebration week.
As well as clearing weeds, trimming overgrown shrubs and planting up raised beds, the volunteers re-painted communal areas and prepared plots for residents to grown their own fruit and vegetables.
Neil Martin, communications and regeneration manager for Golden Gates Housing Trust (GGHT) said the transformation was tremendous.
He said: “These are the sorts of projects that make a real difference to the look and feel of local areas but with other pressure on resources can be difficult to achieve. United Utilities’ graduates did a sterling job and the help of residents, GGHT staff and other volunteers means that areas on three estates are now places local people can be proud of.”
Long Lane Garden Centre and Walton Lea Garden Centre also provided plants and volunteer help.
GGHT supplier Jewson provided additional equipment and materials.
