No shame in mental health issues

PEOPLE with mental health issues should not be afraid to talk about them because it is nothing to be ashamed of – that was Warrington’s message to mark World Mental Health Day.
Cllr Pat Wright, the borough council’s lead member for health and well being said: “Remember that one in four people will experience mental illness or distress at some point in their lives, and it’s nothing to be ashamed of.
“Know that there’s someone there to help, and there are services and activities you can get involved in that could make a difference to your life.”
The council’s mental health outreach creative remedies team held an event at Fearnhead Community Centre to showcase a number of activities ranging from Tai Chi and walking football to a visual arts group and a session
on “Emotional Freedom Technique”.
There was also an “Information Marketplace” where people could find out more about services for mental wellbeing in their area.
Cllr Wright continued: “Physical activities can help improve mental health, and so can simply getting involved with groups of people, sharing activities or just conversation.
“If you want to find out more about help with mental health issues, the
HappyOKSad.org.uk website will put you in touch with local services in Warrington.
“If you need help urgently, you can phone the Samaritans on 08457 90 90 90”
