1eagu3 back Super League revolt

WARRINGTON-based 1eagu3, the Super League player’s association, have added their backing to the protests that saw a meeting to decide the future of rugby league postponed this week.
An EGM was scheduled for Wednesday by the RFL to vote in their preferred re-structuring proposal, only for a revolt by a majority of the clubs to cause its postponement.
1eagu3 had previously opposed the preferred re-structure option – two leagues of 12 splitting in to three leagues of eight – in a formal written submission to the RFL in September, following consultation with its members.
In a statement, the association put forward its belief that the league structure is not the central problem, and that simplicity and stability are the keys to success.
There were also concerns raised about increasing the number of games for players.
Chief Executive Ernie Benbow said: The game as a whole is seriously undersold and undervalued. The players, our members, are often neglected but are indeed the Crown Jewels in the process of moving the game to a level at which it deserves to be. We welcome this pause for further debate and consultation.”
On the main issue within the game, the lack of revenue, almost all (97% of members in a recent player poll) felt that the marketing of the game is simply not good enough.
