Residents fight housing plan

ANGRY residents are fighting plans to build six houses on “green” land at Great Sankey, Warrington.
They claim the development on land off Stockdale Drive would result in the loss of green, open space, a neighbouring house would be overlooked, the plot was too small and the scheme would result in traffic and parking problems.
Local councillor Keith Gleave (pictured) is also opposing the scheme pointing out that many other houses are already in the pipeline in the area, that local schools are full and there is already pressure on local services.
It would also result in the loss of a green open space in a well-developed area.
A report to the borough council’s planning committee states that originally the plan was for seven houses.
But one detached house has been deleted from the scheme, leaving six three-storey dwellings along the site frontage.
Planning officers are recommending the scheme be approved. They say the site is overgrown and unmanaged with no public access. Perimeter fencing makes it inaccessible and it has insignificant value as an amenity space.
Plans have also been submitted for a detached dwelling in the rear garden of a detached bungalow in Heath Road, Penketh.
Four neighbours have objected on the grounds the development is out of scale for a rear garden and inconsistent with the rest of the area. They say will be a loss of privacy, wildlife habitats will be lost and the access on to Heath Road will have safety issues.
Penketh Parish Council have also objected to the size of the building compared to others in the area. They point out there are three protected trees on the site.
Borogh councillor David Keane says the height of the proposed building would be far in excess of the bungalow and the proposals appear very similar to an earlier application which was refused.
He believes the proposal would be dominant and oppressive in its relationship with surrounding properties.
A one or one-and-a-half storey building would be more in keeping with the area.
But planning officers are recommending this scheme also be approved,
