PLANS for a “studio” in the garden of a semi-detached house at Culcheth are being opposed amid fears that it could be used for a commercial purpose.
The scheme at a house in Prestwich Avenue, Culcheth goes before Warrington’s planning committee tonight.
It is being opposed by two neighbours and by Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council who say using the single-storey detached outbuilding for business would not be appropriate because of inadequate access.
They also question whether the building would be too close to the boundary with an adjoining house for it to be maintained and express concern that it appears to be built over a sewer access.
One neighbour claims the building would be partly on his land because of a boundary dispute. Another fears rainwater from the building will drain into his garden.
There are also fears the building may be used for dog grooming business.
Planning officers are recommending the scheme be approved – and point out if the “domestic studio” were to be used for a business purpose a separate planning application would be necessary.
A boundary dispute would not be a planning issue and would be a civil matter between the applicant and the neighbours.
