Second half show sees Town home

THREE second half goals earned Warrington a sixth consecutive win of the season as they won 3-0 Bamber Bridge.
Quickfire goals after half time from Ben Wharton (pictured right) and Ciaran Kilheeney gave Town control of the game, and Chris Gahgan’s late strike put the icing on the cake.
The hosts had the better of the first half, with Warrington struggling to get hold of the ball and Brig having much of the territory.
The first half chance of the game fell to Town’s Scott Metcalfe, who raced on to David Mannix’s lofted through ball, only to see his scuffed lob fall wide of the goal.
Moments later, goalkeeper Josh Cook failed to deal with a cross, and he was forced in to a save with his legs when Matty Kay drove the ball back towards goal.
It was until after the half hour mark that either goalkeeper was tested, with Cook launching himself to his right to deny Daniel Wilkins’s header.
Shaun Reid changed Town’s shape at the break, bringing on Chris Gahgan for Mannix, and Connor Millington moved inside.
It proved dividends, when just three minutes after the restart, Wharton found the net. Gahgan trapped the ball neatly in the middle, and Phil Davies pushed the ball forward to Wharton, who flicked on for Kilheeney to chase down the right. Kilheeney’s low cross found Wharton who swept home.
There was more assertiveness from Town now, and they claimed a second on 52 minutes through Kilheeney. A corner was cleared, but as Peter Dogan fired in a left foot shot from the edge of the box, the Brig defence froze, enabling Wharton to feed Kilheeney as the hosts looked on.
In a similar vein to the recent win at Northwich, the two goal cushion gave Town confidence and James McCarten and Craig Robinson remained solid at the back.
Brig rallied for a brief spell around the hour mark, when a goal mouth scramble almost resulted in a goal being pulled back, and then Cook had to save from Greg Johnstone’s header.
But the game had slipped away from the home side, and Gahgan made it 3-0, driving home with his left foot from the edge of the box after the hard-working Kilheeney had charged down a home clearance.
Town’s next game comes at home to New Mills, who they defeated 2-1 in the league last week, in the FA Cup First Qualifying Round.
