Secrets of historic woodland

TWO travelling storytellers are to visit Warrington’s Gorse Covert Mounds on Saturday, September 21 – with a mission to reveal their secret stories.
The free family event is being organised by the Woodland Trust the two storytellers – The Journey Man and Bonny Voyage – will lead walks through the woods telling tales of witches, magical water, boggarts, fairy folk and many other mysterious goings-on.
The woodlands at Gorse Covert Mounds are managed by the Woodland Trust, a woodland conservation charity.
They have a rich history and many people know about the great munitions factory that stood there during World War 2.
But there are stories from before that – and since.
The walks will run throughout the day but it is necessary to book a place on a walk.
They will take place at 10.30am, 1.30pm and 3.30pm – and each will last about an hour.
Woodland Trust site manager Neil Oxley said: “We’re hoping lots of people will come out and take advantage of this free event, and hear some fantastic stories about the magical and unusual histories about the woods. The storytellers will take you over the mounds to tell tales, mixing history and fantasy for all ages”
To book a place, contact Jo Mugford at [email protected] or call 07771 914446. The event is suitable for all ages, but under 16s must be supervised by an adult.
