PLANNING bosses at Warrington have given the go-ahead for a convenience store adjoining a new housing estate currently under construction.
The development involves a change of use of offices in Thelwall Lane, Latchford.
A petition opposing the scheme was signed by 300 people and local councillor Hans Mundry expressed concern about increased parking problems.
But members of the borough council’s planning committee approved the scheme after officers had pointed out that although the proposed parking provision – nine spaces at the rear of the property – was below the council’s maximum parking standard, it was acceptable due to the close proximity of the adjacent residental area and the high potential for people to visit the store on foot.
In addition, four cycle stands were being provided.
A similar planning application was refused last year because of inadequate visibility splays from the proposed car park. But officers said the current application addressed this problem.
The site was originally offices for an adjoining tannery but in 2010 permission was granted for the wider site to be developed with 92 houses.
Go-ahead for new retail store
