WARRINGTON kick off the new season with a long journey to promotion favourites Darlington 1883 this Saturday (August 17) – the newly promoted club which has risen from the ashes of the former football league outfit.
Playing at Bishop Auckland’s stadium, the match will easily attract a four figure gate and Warrington are hoping to take a good following.
Manager Shaun Reid (pictured right) will be looking to build on last week’s impressive 3-2 friendly win at Buckley.
“We couldn’t have had a tougher start to the season,” said Reid. “But it will be a good test for us and if we want to achieve our goal of promotion we need to compete with the best.”
Meanwhile Reid has completed some more close season signings including Mike Kennedy, the son of Liverpool European cup winning legend Alan Kennedy, who has returned to the UK after a stint playing in America.
Other signings include Todd Blayney, a defender who has previously played for Conwy Borough in the Welsh Alliance, Goal keeper Jack Cookson, who has signed from Morecambe, Dwayne Greenwood, a defender who has previously played for Manchester League club Old Altrinchamians and midfielder Bradley Mason who has joined from Blackburn Rovers.
Meanwhile Warrington will kick off their league season at the newly named HG Driver Recruitment Stadium next Tuesday evening, 7.45pm when they welcome Lancaster City, which will prove to be another tough test, followed by the visit of Ramsbottom United on Saturday week, who made the play offs last season.
