Logistics centre to be scaled down?

A DEVELOPER is to seek planning consent to scale down proposals for a £100 million logistics centre on Warrington’s giant Omega site.
The proposed development sparked anger among people living nearby because of the height of the building – and as a result the scheme was amended to reduce it.
Now the plans are to be re-submitted to Warrington Borough Council to scale down the building still further.
A letter is being circulated to nearby residents by Omega Warrington Ltd (OWL) and Bericote Properties explaining the proposed changes.
But the name of the eventual occupier of the building has still not been revealed and will not be until the legalities of the deal have been completed.
Originally the plans were for a building of about 600,0000 sq feet and 40m high on a 28 acre site. Later it was reduced to 35m high.
Nearby residents still felt this was too high – but the plans were approved.
Now the re-submission will reduce the height by a further three metres.
But OWL and Bericote say the smaller building will still bring hundreds of jobs to the site, as originally outlined.
Other benefits, including off-site wildlife habitat creation and a commitment to local employment creation will still be brought forward.
The new proposals will be considered by Warrington planners in the near future.
