BRIDGEWATER High School’s under 14s have been crowned the new National Schools Basketball Champions.
They defeated Weavers School from Wellingborough 100-48 in the final, held at the Nottingham Wildcats Arena.
Team manager and KS3 PE co-ordinator Paul Mackay said: “I am so proud of the effort and commitment shown by the pupils. This has been a long competition and to come out top is a real credit to the pupils.”
Joe Cummins was named as Most Valuable Player of the competition, and has since been picked to play for England’s under 14s squad.
Head Coach Delme Herriman said: “The boys stuck with the system and the plays we have practised all year and the nature of the win shows their potential. This is a really talented team that will go far.”
Eight of the squad also helped Cheshire Jets under 14s to victory in the National League Championships in Sheffield.
