WARRINGTON Collegiate has been given the go ahead to launch a Future Tech Studio, the first school of its type in Warrington.
Aimed at 14-19 years, Future Tech Studio will specialise in offering young people the opportunity to study for qualifications leading to careers in the Energy and Engineering, IT and Telecommunications and Business and Financial Services sectors.
The plans have been given the go ahead by the Department of Education and the school will open in September 2014.
Paul Hafren, Principal of Warrington Collegiate and Chair of Warrington Collegiate Education Trust, said: “We are delighted that the Department for Education has recognised Warrington Collegiate’s passion for vocational education by supporting our application to open a Studio School.
“This is great news for young people in Warrington. The Future Tech Studio will offer young people between the ages of 14 – 19 the opportunity to achieve academic success whilst at the same time gaining crucial employability and enterprise skills.
“There are some major employers backing the Future Tech Studio and young people graduating from the Studio School will have the choice of gaining good quality employment, starting an apprenticeship or going onto university.”
Future Tech Studio will offer mainstream qualifications (including GCSEs, A Levels, and vocational and professional qualifications) linked to the world of work, and young people will be able to join the school either at the beginning of Year 10 or Year 12.
Employers will get involved in all aspects of school life – from designing the curriculum and delivering masterclasses, to providing paid work placements and mentoring students.
