£199,000 to help rough sleepers

WARRINGTON is one of 22 communities to benefit from a grant to help ensure that no-one spends a second night on the street.
Local charity Brighter Futures has been awarded £199,831 to help get rough sleepers off the streets of Warrington, into secure accommodation and back on track.
Brighter Futures will work with services across Warrington, including police and health, to ensure information about rough sleepers is collated and shared across the community.
All rough sleepers will be offered a thorough assessment to ensure offers of help, such as personal budgets, meet their individual needs. The partnership will also organise local training events.
The funding, awarded as part of the £20 million Homeless Transition Fund, follows the launch of Streetlink, a new England-wide hotline and website which enables concerned members of the public to help a rough sleeper.
Cllr David Keane (pictured), the borough council’s executive member for environment and public protection, said: “This funding will mean we can continue to provide solutions for those in need and who are sleeping rough. It will also mean we can deliver the Streetlink service in the borough and connect rough sleepers with local advice and services.”
People can take action to help rough sleepers in Warrington at www.streetlink.org.uk or by calling 0300 500 0914.

  1. Glad to see money going towards helping homeless people, though it might have been good to see at least some of it going towards some form of accommodation.
