Hospital's festive programmes

RADIO General – which is celebrating 55 years of broadcasting to patients in Warrington Hospital this year – is putting on three days of extra programming over the Christmas period.
Christmas Eve sees a full afternoon of live programmes, followed by coverage of Bethesda Evangelical Church’s Christmas Eve “Songs of Praise”.
The Monday night request show, playing the patients’ requests, follows at 8pm.
Christmas Day programmes start at 9am with Jim Jefferies and guests John Duffield, the hospital chaplain, “Tony the Top Trackside Tipster”, Mel Pickup, chief executive of Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, a bit of Ken Dodd and the latest news from the delivery suite on the new Christmas babies.
The Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Steve Wright will also be talking about his experiences over the past seven months.
Mike Taylor guides patients through the early afternoon from 12pm followed at 2 pm by Susan Hill. The Queen’s Speech is broadcast at 3pm then Mark Snowdon presents the “Request Chart”.
Well known local DJ Pete Pinnington will give a very special Christmas show on Christmas Day at 6pm.
A full schedule of afternoon live programmes start at noon on Boxing Day. Rugby fans will not miss out as Radio General will bring live coverage of the Widnes Vikings v Warrington Wolves match at 3pm. The Wednesday night request programmes start at 8pm.
Station secretary Keith Inman said: “Christmas is a difficult time for people who are in hospital. By presenting these extra programmes we hope that we can make Christmas more enjoyable for our listeners”.
