Golden partnership for hospice

HOSPICE volunteer Peggy Moss MBE was on hand to officially open a new St Rocco’s Hospice charity shop in Golden Square Shopping Centre, cementing a partnership which spans over 30 years.
Back in the early 1980s, Peggy was asked to become part of a committee dedicated to raising funds for a hospice in Warrington. She first secured a shop at Golden Square, selling donated goods to raise funds for a Hospice Appeal. In just six weeks, the shop raised over £6000 and the committee were well on their way to opening a Hospice.
St Rocco’s Hospice opened its doors to patients in Warrington back in 1985.
The Hospicen ow has eight shops which are staffed by volunteers who collectively raise over £600,000 to care for patients at St Rocco’s.
Ian Cox, General Manager of Golden Square Shopping Centre said: ‘We are delighted to support the work of St Rocco’s by providing a retail unit. Our partnership with the Hospice has spanned a generation and helped make a difference to thousands of patients and families across Warrington.
“During 2011 alone, Golden Square activities have helped to raise over £47,000 for St Rocco’s- funds which have helped to support the Hospice’s day therapy services and provide a haven for hospice patients.”
The St Rocco’s Shop in Golden Square will sell a selection of quality clothing and shoes, along with a range of festive goods on the run up to Christmas.
