Impressive win for Lymm

LYMM recorded an impressive 31-6 victory over Burnage who would have fancied their chances looking at the home side’s indifferent start to the season.
Temperamental would have been a good description of Saturday’s weather conditions. Lymm started the brighter despite torrential rain and dominated first half territory and possession. As is so often the case however the dominance was not being converted into points and the penalty and error count was building significantly to Lymm’s
disadvantage. From a well drilled line out Ollie Higginson grabbed the game by the collar and the Lymm forwards started to win the forward battle culminating in a close quarters drive and try by the ever impressive Adam Bray. A slender return however for such territorial possession and superiority was a 7 – 3 half time lead.
The second half was a polar opposite from the first half in terms of territory and possession stats but coach Kinsey installed the vital execution component lacking in the first half performance. Four further scintillating tries followed with some breathtaking rugby securing a bonus point victory and for Lymm who perhaps more impressively held
their visitors to just two penalty scores continued their impressive defensive record.
Ollie Giles powered over for the first of the second half scores impressively converted by McEvoy. Giles a pre season signing from Warrington Wolves looks to be a physical challenge for any in this league and as he learns the RU code he can only continue to improve. Captain Ollie Higginson made amends for some uncharacteristic handling errors by having an influential hand in two superb scores finished by Sion Williams and a second from Adam Bray. The try of the match however was scored by the mercurial David Williamson, always a counter attacking threat Graveyard took due advantage of the space now apparent from his forwards dominance, beating defenders and winning the chip and run chase to finish a superb individual effort.
Lymm make too many errors to be a realistic challenger for promotion this term and still need to mature and grind out wins on the road. However there shouldn’t be a team in the league that comes to Beechwood with over confidence in their credentials as despite league position Lymm are a handful for any challenger at home!! Let’s see this form translate to the road and we will surely climb the table.
