Changes to town's cancer services

THE NHS is to hit the streets of Warrington in a bid to encourage residents to find out more about proposed changes to cancer services.
A “Year of Action on Cancer” branded trailer will be in Warrington town centre on October 11-13 to provide residents with an opportunity to find out more about the proposals ahead of a formal consultation next year.
Plans are currently being developed to extend the specialist services on offer at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in Wirral by opening an additional comprehensive cancer centre next to the new Royal Liverpool University Hospital in Liverpool.
Kathy Doran, chairman of Merseyside and Cheshire Cancer Network, said: “The roadshow will provide an opportunity for Warrington residents to find out more about the proposals at a location that’s convenient for them. These proposals aim to put the needs of patients at the heart of service delivery so we’re keen to engage with as many people as possible to ensure they understand the proposals ahead of the consultation next year.”
A video explaining the changes and the benefits they would bring will be played, while volunteers from the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, Local Involvement Networks and local cancer support groups will be providing information leaflets, answering questions and handing out feedback cards to be completed.
Dr Nicky Thorpe, acting medical director at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, said: “The development of a new comprehensive cancer centre will be the single biggest step towards developing world class services for our region. The roadshow is a great opportunity to find out more about these exciting proposals and raise any questions before we seek formal views next year.”
More information about the plans is available online at www.mccancercentre.nhs.uk
Formal consultation on the proposals will take place next spring.
