TEN Warrington Wolves’ players have agreed new contract extensions including Skipper Adrian Morley, veteran half-back Lee Briers and Australian full-back Brett Hodgson.
The Wolves have opted for stability and consistency amongst their squad for 2013 and beyond with a blend of experience and youth.
Club Captain Adrian Morley, Lee Briers, (both pictured right lifting the Challenge Cup in 2009) Micky Higham and James Laithwaite have agreed one-year extensions keeping them at the club until November 2013.
Fullback Brett Hodgson (pictured top) has penned another two-year deal along with young hooker Brad Dwyer and forward Mike Cooper who are now at the Wolves until the end of 2014. The club has also extended Ben Westwood’s contract by a further two years until November 2015.
Rising star Gareth O’Brien has made a name for himself this season learning from the likes of Lee Briers earning himself a three-year deal making him part of the Warrington squad until the end of 2015. Prop Chris Hill signed from Championship side Leigh Centurions at the start of this year and has thrived from the step-up into the top flight with over 20 appearances to date. Chris has extended his initial contract by a further three years until the end of 2016.
Wolves’ head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith said on these contract extensions: “It’s great that we are keeping players who are doing a fine job for us and helping this club advance. As a coach I’m big on stability in the camp within a club and we’ve got plenty of talent and experience so the blend is a good one. I’m confident that it’s going to continue to be one of our strengths as we maintain that stability and keep the momentum moving forward at the club for the future. The re-signing of these players is certainly going to help us do that.
“As well as the experienced players we are helping to bring the young players through and we are delighted to have local talent in abundance as it really shows the hard work that’s being done in a lot of areas within the club.
“Each one of these players is a talent in their own right and has experience that they bring to the squad. The blend’s working well for us presently and I’ve got no doubt that it will continue to work for us in the future.”
