A Warrington businessman got on his bike to raise more than £1,000 for a cancer charity.Simon Hughes, director at Birchwood Park based scaffolding health and safety specialist Simian Risk, took part in the Etape Caledonia cycle challenge as part of Marie Curie’s Team Daffodil.
Simon raised £1,070 for Marie Curie through sponsorship from family and friends, as well as Simian Risk customers and suppliers.
The 81-mile cycle challenge took Simon and his fellow riders through the Cairngorms in Pitlochry, which included 6,000ft of tough road and mountain terrain climbing.
Simon, who is a member of the Deeside Olympic Road Club, said the challenge took him five and a half hours to complete.
He said: “The Etape Caledonia Challenge is a beautiful, scenic ride, but at the same time absolutely exhausting!
“I am delighted to have been able to raise so much money for Marie Curie and want to thank everyone who sponsored and supported me. It is a great cause and at Simian Risk we really encourage staff members to get involved with charitable giving and taking part in events such as this.”
Simon has already committed to two further charity bike rides this summer, the Etape Cymru and the Wild Wales cycling challenges.
